Triage prototype · instrumented playtest build
You run a mining machine on Io. It is nuclear powered, it has five crew aboard, and it is slowly destroying itself while it works. Your job is to dig out as much metal as you can and then leave before something kills you.
Depth pays. The deeper you cut, the richer the rock. The good material is well past where a careful run stops.
Your ride leaves on a schedule. A transport arrives at T+20:00, free, included in your contract. You can board it, or stay and try to catch a later one - which costs money and is not guaranteed.
The machine has safety limits. You can switch them off and run harder, which digs faster. Nothing bad happens the instant you do it. Things simply start wearing out faster than they were, and they wear much faster the harder you push. Push hard enough for long enough and things break.
You cannot exceed 100% load with the safeties on.
Things go wrong constantly - that is normal. Each fault tells you what an instrument is reading, not what is wrong. Work out what it means and do something about it. Sending a crew member takes them away from watching everything else.
There are no hints. Everything you need is on the panel. If you are unsure what a reading means, guess, and see what happens.
